During my adolescent years I was somewhat overweight. As a result, I find that it’s easier for me to gain weight than for someone who has never been on the heavier side of the scale. It doesn’t take much for my weight to fluctuate 5-8 pounds in a short period of time. Heck, if I tried, I could gain 20 pounds in a month pretty easily — And I’m not talkin’ muscle here!
The reason for this is because while you can expand and shrink fat cells, the number of fat cells in your body stays relatively the same once you’re an adult. This is why addressing the childhood obesity epidemic in the United States and elsewhere is critical in battling obesity long-term. Through experience and a lot of trial and error, I now understand my body and know what things affect it more than others. High fructose corn syrup makes me put on weight like no other. I know I’m not alone in this as there are several studies documenting that your body metabolizes glucose differently than high fructose corn syrup, with the latter causing your body to store more fat.
Chlorella seems to help prevent this excess fat accumulation. Mind you, this is not to give you an excuse to binge on empty calories, but to give you the knowledge to address the issue, should the situation arise. Chlorella is one of my favorite super foods for so many reasons that I don’t even know where to start!
From personal experience, as well as being documented in several studies, chlorella has been known to help in losing weight and actually keeping it off. One of the reasons for this has to do with maintaining blood glucose levels. This is especially important on those days where you diet is far from optimal, when consuming foods loaded with carbohydrates, high fructose, unhealthy fats, etc. I’ve observed that when taking chlorella, my body doesn’t store fat the same way that I normally experience on the rare occasion that I stuff myself silly (hey, I’m only human!). Chlorella seems to have clear combative properties against gaining excess weight and assisting in weight loss. What a great bonus, right?
It has been a staple of my diet for years and when I don’t use it on a consistent basis or at least relatively consistent basis, I notice that my energy levels decrease and I get more carbohydrate cravings. I’ve also noticed that on my ‘cheat days’ or if I “inadvertently” ate tons of excess calories from eating out, drinking a glass of water mixed with a couple heaping teaspoons of chlorella afterwards would significantly lessen the blow to my homeostasis. It would also make me feel less acidic, which always seemed to be an issue after going on an unhealthy binge. The ideal pH of the human body is around 7.35 pH, a slightly more alkaline state.
Chlorella does a great job at assisting my body get back into an optimal state, with the added benefit of preventing huge weight fluctuations. One of the great things about this special plant is that you can actually see and feel the difference when taking it, which is always a huge motivator!
…the amount of benefits chlorella provides makes it one of the biggest bangs for you buck.
Several months ago, I partook in quite the New York City adventure. Each night out the boys and I ended up consuming way more beer and liquor than I would ever recommend. Each morning of that weekend, I’d wake up a dehydrated mess with obvious digestive issues. Furthermore, my blood felt acidic, my mind cloudy, and overall completely lethargic – also known as a helluva hangover. When I got home the first thing I did was drink some chlorella and had a protein shake to get some vital nutrients flowing and going. I wish I could say that the drinks combined to give me an instantaneous hangover fix, but no… that didn’t happen. In fact, after the drinks, the only thing I felt like doing was watch a movie and go to bed, which I gladly complied.
I woke up a few hours later though, and I felt great. It surprised me to experience such a noticeable effect so soon after taking it. I’m sure it was a combination of the high chlorophyll and nutrient content, its unique cell wall that binds well to heavy metals and other toxins, and it regulating my pH, giving my body the quick boost that it needed.
These were just some of the benefits of chlorella I’ve experienced and why I view it as one of my most important supplements. Furthermore, the amount of benefits chlorella provides, makes it one of the biggest bangs for you buck. This goes for both preventative healthcare, as well as after you are sick. It’s a no-brainer to make Chlorella an essential part of your diet and detoxifying routine.
Normally when taking supplements, the benefits are more long term; most preventative measures require entire lifestyle changes to have cumulative effects. What is interesting to note is that along with long-term benefits, chlorella actually has noticeable short-term benefits as well. If you haven’t tried chlorella, I highly recommend you give it a shot. There is no doubt that chlorella will find a place in your healthy lifestyle as well!
